I've had enough...

Hourlong waits. When I have a reservation, I want my table -- and my food -- in prompt order. Some big-hit new restaurants are turning off their crowds with long waits. Nothing tastes so good it makes up for all that time drumming my fingers at the table.

Up on the roof

They're pounding away on top of Philthy Phil's, (678 75th Ave., St. Pete Beach; (727) 367-9977) to add a rooftop bar with 50 seats and an endless view of the gulf. Should be ready for prime sunsets by Labor Day.

Tip of the toque

When the All-American version of Iron Chef debuts in November on UPN, the mantle of Iron Chef Asian will be worn by Roy Yamaguchi, Outback's partner in Roy's.

New in town

The local branch of New York City's Palm steakhouse opens at WestShore Plaza this week in time to join in the chain's surf 'n' turf dinner for two deal: 18-ounce steak, 2 1/2-pound lobster, plus Caesar salad and cheesecake for $85.
