© St. Petersburg Times, Burglars abscond with array of snack food DADE CITY -- Whoever broke into the Joyland Drive-in Theatre, 16414 U.S. 301, likely won't starve anytime soon. The burglary happened at the theater between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The burglars got away with more than $1,100 in food and candy. The theatre's assistant manager, Joe Creech, and another employee, Owen Stringer, arrived at the business to find freezer and refrigerator doors open and a fax machine upside down on the floor. Among the missing food items were pizza, nachos, chips, M&Ms, Skittles and Twizzlers. It was not clear how the burglars entered the building, because both main doors were locked, as were all the windows, a report said. Pasco County sheriff's deputies have no suspects in the case. Deputies seek man wanted for traffickingLACOOCHEE -- Sheriff's deputies from Polk and Pasco counties were searching for a man Thursday evening who fled from a deputy in Lakeland. The man, who is 29 years old and white, ran from a deputy who was trying to arrest him on outstanding warrants, said Polk County sheriff's spokeswoman Michal Shanley. She said the man, whom authorities did not name, was wanted on charges of trafficking in methamphetamines, trafficking in cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. "Our investigator got a tip where he was and tried to make a traffic stop on him," Shanley said. "He fled, we followed." The chase headed into east Pasco. Deputies from both sheriff's offices joined in with a helicopter from Polk County. The man did have a passenger with him, Shanley said, but the passenger bailed out of the car and will not face charges, she said. The man continued north on U.S. 301 into Lacoochee, where he also bailed out of the car in an open field and ran away. He was armed, deputies said. Deputies had dogs out Thursday night searching for the man. The preschool's manager told Pasco sheriff's deputies that three playground toys had been stolen from behind the building sometime during the weekend. He reported the incident to the Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. Vandals took two climbing sculptures, a purple dinosaur and a green frog, and a plastic tree. All three toys were Little Tikes brand. Pasco sheriff's deputies had no suspects Wednesday. Driver, 70, accused of aggravated assaultNEW PORT RICHEY -- A woman who wrote down the license plate number of the man she said dented her car door helped Pasco sheriff's deputies nab a suspect only hours later. Deputies arrested William Joyce Baker, 70, of 6535 Thicket Trail; he faces charges of aggravated assault and criminal mischief. A woman told deputies that he hit her car when he opened the door of his red Oldsmobile at the 7-Eleven store on State Road 54 and Seven Springs Boulevard at 2:50 p.m. Monday, according to a report. When she confronted him, he threatened her, she said. When she went behind his car to record his plate number, he began backing the vehicle while she was still standing there, the report said. Deputies traced the plate number to Baker and arrested him at his home at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. He was released on $5,250 bail Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. Holiday man beaten with a baseball batHOLIDAY -- A Holiday man who said he challenged another man to a fight ended up getting attacked with a baseball bat just after midnight Tuesday, Pasco sheriff's reports said. They then hit him in the back and upper torso with a baseball bat from his own car. Deputies have made no arrests. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
