Snubbed last season, Lastings Milledge wasn't going to let it happen again.

The Northside Christian outfielder, who will be a junior next season, was named to the 2001 USA Youth Baseball team following the six-day team trials at the University of Houston.

Milledge will remain in Houston for four exhibition games today through Tuesday. Then the team, comprised of players ages 16-under, will fly to Veracruz, Mexico, for the International Baseball Federation World Youth Baseball Championships Aug. 3-12.

A shoulder injury contributed to Milledge being cut last year. In five games, Milledge, 16, went 4-for-17 with 3 home runs (the most at the trials), and 8 RBI.

Milledge's Northside Christian teammate, infielder/outfielder Brian LeClerc, a rising junior, also tried out but did not make the final cut. LeClerc went 2-for-9 with a run and a stolen base in five games (two starts).
