Daytona gets sterling debutBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published July 29, 2000 DAYTONA -- Juan Cruz struck out 12 in 62/3 innings in his first start since being called up to Daytona as the Cubs beat the Dunedin Blue Jays 4-1 on Friday. Cruz allowed one run on three hits and a walk. Scott Tranchina finished for his first first save. Tony Schrager went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI for the Cubs. CLEARWATER 3, TAMPA 0: Adam Walker allowed four hits in seven shutout innings of relief for the host Phillies. Cary Hiles earned his 17th save.
