Woman injured in one of two home invasionsBy Times staff writer
© St. Petersburg Times, TAMPA -- In two separate instances, two masked men kicked in the doors of homes on the opposite sides of town early Sunday and robbed their victims. A woman was shot in the hand during the second robbery. The first happened in West Tampa shortly after 2 a.m. Police said Annie Armstrong, 44, and Carsel Armstrong, 47, were asleep in their apartment in the 4200 block of W Grace Street when two men wearing ski masks and carrying silver handguns kicked in the door. Both men were in their 20s with medium builds. They demanded money and other property from the Armstrongs and left in a blue Chevrolet Cavalier, the Armstrongs told police. At 4:45 a.m. in east Tampa, two masked men broke into the apartment of Patricia Brown, 28, and her boyfriend, Reginald Christopher, 28, in the 3600 block of N 55th Street. Brown was sleeping in the living room. She told police that the men grabbed her around her neck and walked to the locked bedroom where Christopher was sleeping. One of the men yelled for Christopher to come out while using Brown's body as a shield. When Christopher didn't open the door, the man shot into the door four times. Christopher, meanwhile, climbed out the bedroom window and ran. Smoke from the gunfire activated the apartment's smoke alarms and the two intruders ran. As they left, one of them fired into the apartment, this time hitting Brown in the hand. Brown was treated for her injury at Tampa General Hospital. Anyone with information about either robbery is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
