White, son of Butch White Sr. of New Port Richey, was recently named to the Dean's List at North Park University in Chicago. White, a finance major, was recognized for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or better. American Legion posts earn high honorsNEW PORT RICHEY -- Local American Legion posts won awards at the recent state convention in Haines City. American Legion Paradise Post 79 of New Port Richey won a first place award in the large post category for its newsletter, The Paradise Parade, edited by Ed White. Veterans Village Post 343 of New Port Richey won a first place award for its newsletter in the small post category. Their newsletter is called No-Name Newsletter, edited by Katie Robinson, commander. Robinson was also named an outstanding adjutant. Dine Downtown raises funds for food pantryNEW PORT RICHEY -- At the recent Dine Downtown sponsored by Downtown New Port Richey merchants raised $670 and a substantial amount of food for the Pasco Food Bank. Participating restaurants including Boulevard Beef & Ale, Cafe Grand, the Crab Trap, Garden Gate Cafe & Tea Room at Only The Best, and the Jade Fountain, raised the most money for the food bank during the promotion. Merchants who collected canned food donations during the week included Allgood Variety, Cameo Antique Mall, Cathedral, Automotive Main Street Texaco, Davis Hardware and Karen's Gifts. The May event was supported by Dr. Lauren Kinkead, the West Coast Medical Associates, Babies and Beyond Pediatrics and a partnership between downtown merchants and the Greater New Port Richey Main Street. The Pasco Food Bank in Land O'Lakes was founded in 1991 to supply nutritious foods to charitable feeding programs that see a variety of people living in poverty in Pasco and Hernando counties.
