Site SeeingBy JULES ALLEN
© St. Petersburg Times, Feel free to browse... Impractically sexywww.HipProps.com/home/home.html How should one illustrate the word impractical? Well, let's kick off by stating this isn't your father's impractical. All the items on this site are desirable yet only available as rental items. And this store is in London, so we're clearly on the wrong continent. So, relax, pull up a browser and lust after the whizzy furniture. It's a collection of chairs, tables and other arty gear from the '70s to present day. Taste is a matter of personal opinion, but you're sure to find something that tickles your mind here. Rent an editorNot everybody can be blessed with a professional editor, that legendary righter of grammatical wrongs, that dotter of i's and crosser of t's. If I were looking for a cheap gag, I'd say I'm looking for one, too. But I like to think I'm bigger than that, plus this column is two days late so I need all the help I can get. If you've got something important that needs to be proofed and don't trust your neighbor to read it for you, Edit Avenue will do it for a few bucks. It's an interesting idea and could be quite useful. MP3's ahoy!Napster, while not officially dead, might as well be. Even if Joe Average was willing to pay a few bucks a month for access to music, the greed of the music industry has resulted in the creation of places such as Music City, perhaps the largest of the Napster wanna-be sites. The irony, of course, is that while everybody was using Napster, the MP3 phenomenon was controllable. Now that Napster has its legs shackled, users fled elsewhere. Not very well done, I'd say. For womenWith a URL like that, you'd expect sweaty, angular people jumping over large objects to grace the home page of this site. Instead, you'll find an amazing amount of information for women in menopause. The site has been around for six or eight years, as the information is a tad schizophrenic, but it certainly shows in the wealth of content. It's not for everybody but if you or somebody you know is struggling with menopause, it's worth bookmarking. Naturally, the community-oriented aspects are where the good stuff is. Stormy and darkThis may come as a shock, but there were cross-cultural oddities roaming the Earth in the pre-Internet days. I had to lie down for a while after discovering this news because I wasn't sure that anybody was alive prior to Al Gore inventing the thing. Friends had to sit with me just in case I did something stupid such as open an AOL account. After recovery, I was delighted to find this site offers a bad writing competition based on the most horrid yet famous of opening lines, "It was a dark and stormy night." Perhaps the past winners will make up for me sending you to this most wretched of places.
