Airline analyst soars with 'grand slam'
© St. Petersburg Times, published July 31, 2000 Airline analyst Jim Parker, a recent hire at Raymond James & Associates, won kudus from the Wall Street Journal last week, gaining membership in the newspaper's Grand Slam Club. The exclusive group consists of three analysts who qualified for high honors all eight years the Journal has been rating their profession. Parker joined Raymond James from SunTrust Equitable Securities, where he did the work that won him a No. 1 ranking for accuracy of earnings estimates. His current airline stock favorites are SkyWest, Atlantic Coast Airlines Holdings and Southwest Airlines. Insurance analyst Steven D. Schwartz, another recent hire at Raymond James, walked away with four awards in the newspaper's Best on the Street contest. He did his winning work at ABN Amro. Those earning star status for work performed at Raymond James were: Marshall Adkins, oil equipment and services; Phil Leigh, Internet; and Scott Barry, recreational products and services. Barry now works at Credit Suisse First Boston. Last year five Raymond James analysts made the list. Merrill Lynch was No. 1 on this year's list, with 34 all-star analysts. © St. Petersburg Times.
