Activist for the mentally retarded diesBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published July 31, 2000 Delores Cole, known for supporting the rights of the mentally retarded, died Friday at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Mrs. Cole, 76, was the mother of Chet Cole, executive director of the Key Training Center, an agency that provides jobs and living skills to mentally retarded adults. Mrs. Cole had been hospitalized since July 14, the beginning of Key's annual fund-raiser and public awareness campaign known as the Run For the Money. Her illness prevented her from attending the dinner. It also played a part in Chet Cole's decision not to participate in the 180-mile run. Hooper Funeral Home of Inverness is handling the funeral, but arrangements are incomplete. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
