Man faces charges of resisting, child abuse

LAND O'LAKES -- Pasco County sheriff's deputies arrested a man Monday after he allegedly punched a 14-year-old boy in the face.

Deputies said Leonard Andrew Thomas, 37, of 2240 Old Cypress Creek Road, didn't go to jail quietly.

Reports state Thomas refused to answer any questions about the altercation at his address that left the 14-year-old boy with a red left cheek.

Deputies said that when they tried to handcuff Thomas, he resisted time and again. After deputies finally handcuffed him, Thomas refused to walk to the patrol car. He had to be carried, reports stated.

He was taken to the county fire rescue station for medical treatment, where he kicked out the car's rear driver side window and bent the window frame.

From there, deputies put him in hobble restraints.

Thomas continued resisting on the way to the jail when he started kicking the rear passenger side window, shattering it as well, reports stated.

Thomas faces charges of child abuse, resisting arrest without violence and criminal mischief. He remained at Land O'Lakes jail Tuesday in lieu of $1,500 bail.

School Board sets new property tax rate

LAND O'LAKES -- The Pasco County School Board on Tuesday night set a new property tax rate that should give most homeowners a break on their school taxes this coming year.

The board approved a new mill rate of 9.025 mills, about 3.5 percent lower than this year's rate. A mill represents $1 in tax for every $1,000 of taxable property value.

Setting the mill rate is the board's first step toward approving a new budget. The budget, totaling $541-million, is up about $15.7-million from last year. The board will adopt the budget after a public hearing at 6 p.m. Sept. 11. The hearing will be in the board meeting room at 7227 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Land O'Lakes.

Man facing charges of battery, assault

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A dispute between a couple Sunday afternoon escalated when the boyfriend threatened several people with a .22-caliber rifle, according to Pasco sheriff's reports.

A woman told a deputy that her live-in boyfriend, 23-year-old Angel Lee Ortiz of 6708 Carnelian Ave., had punched her twice in the face with a closed fist. When her uncle and two other men arrived at the home at 4:30 p.m. in response to the incident, Ortiz went into his home and returned with the rifle, reports said. He placed bullets in the gun and aimed it at the men, threatening to shoot, reports said.

Ortiz was arrested on charges of domestic battery and aggravated assault. A felon, he also was charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm. He was being held Tuesday evening at the county jail in Land O'Lakes on $20,100 bail.

Spring Hill man arrested in domestic assault case

SPRING HILL -- A man blamed heavy intoxication as his reason for fighting with his wife Sunday night, according to Pasco sheriff's reports.

Jamie St. John, 31, of 15741 Waxweed Ave.allegedly threw items, including a liquor bottle, around 10:15 p.m. Sundayand held the broken bottle to his wife's face and threatened her.

He was arrested on charges of domestic aggravated assault and taken to the county jail. On Monday, he was released on his own recognizance under supervision.

Holiday woman charged with battery, mischief

Pasco sheriff's deputies arrested a Holiday woman on Monday afternoon in a series of criminal actions, according to reports.

Bobbi Jo Miller, 26, of 5916 Dorsal Drive first was charged with felony battery in a June 10 incident. Reports state that Miller pulled a woman to the ground by her hair. The woman suffered a neck and back sprain and numerous bruises on her tailbone after landing on the concrete patio floor. The attack happened on Colrain Drive in Port Richey.

Because of an unrelated incident in New Port Richey, deputies charged Miller with simple domestic battery and felony criminal mischief. At 11:30 p.m. Friday, Miller punched her ex-boyfriend in his forehead, reports said. Soon after, he saw Miller running from his truck, which was scratched on about 70 percent of its surface.

On Tuesday, Miller was being held at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $11,000 bail.

Man charged in case involving sex with a minor

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Responding to a domestic violence call Sunday, a Pasco sheriff's deputy ended up charging a 25-year-old man with unlawful sexual relations with someone under age 18.

An unnamed 17-year-old victim told deputies that James Melton Boudreaux III, 25, had grabbed and clawed her arms during an argument late Sunday morning. It was unclear from reports what Boudreaux's relationship to the victim was or where in New Port Richey the incident occurred.

During the deputy's investigation, the mother of the teenager said Boudreaux was having sexual intercourse with her daughter. Reports state that the 25-year-old admitted to this relationship.

Boudreaux is facing charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, simple domestic battery and violation of probation for a past charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license. Boudreaux of 4448 Glissade Drive in Holiday, was being held Tuesday at the Land O'Lakes jail without bail because of the probation violation, which is from Sumter County.

Man charged with battery, tampering with a witness

NEW PORT RICHEY -- Denver Jessie Hutchinson, 56, was arrested Sunday afternoon after sheriff's deputies said he hit someone in the head with a closed fist and small radio.

It was unclear from sheriff's reports whom Hutchinson hit, but at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, they said he struck someone several times with his closed fist. During the incident, which took place at Hutchinson's home on 7825 Fox Hollow Drive, he also attacked the victim with a small portable stereo, reports said. The victim sustained head injuries. Hutchinson then took away the phone to prevent the victim from calling law enforcement officers. He ran from the home when the victim made the call from another phone.

He was charged with domestic aggravated battery and tampering with a witness and was being held at the county jail Tuesday on $30,000 bail.
