Festival planners hope storm doesn't attend

PALM HARBOR -- Organizers of Sunsets on Florida Avenue hope for 200 to 300 people for tonight's street festival in old downtown Palm Harbor, but that could change if Tropical Storm Barry crashes the party.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., with beach music by Two Laid Back, beer and wine, food and activities for kids. As of late Thursday, organizers were watching the weather system in the Gulf of Mexico and still intended to block off Florida Avenue from Omaha Circle to 12th Street for the event.

"We are planning to go, rain or shine," said Deborah Voss, promotions chairwoman for the Old Palm Harbor Partnership, which runs the Main Street program. "If this weather lightens up a bit, we may just have drizzle. If it's pouring, we may have to make a last-minute call." A similar event in June was rained out, she said.
