Cannella Elementary

PRINCIPAL: Rose Ann Cuervo

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Lanier Elementary

REPLACED: Lisa Yost

QUICK FACT: Cuervo got her start as a teacher at Citrus Park Elementary in 1968. She received all of her collegiate degrees in Hillsborough County, at the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa.

Carrollwood Elementary

PRINCIPAL: Jan King

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Mitchell Elementary

REPLACED: Joan Bookman

QUICK FACT: Before coming to the district in 1974, King was a teacher at Wildwood Middle School in Wildwood, FL. She has held teaching and administrative positions at Progress Village Elementary, Chiaramonte Elementary, Temple Terrace Elementary, Town 'n Country Elementary, Lake Magdalene Elementary and Mitchell Elementary.

Chiles Elementary

PRINCIPAL: Tom Dessy

PREVIOUS POSITION: Dessy was the principal of Tampa Palms Elementary from 1990 until he retired in 1995.

REPLACED: New school

QUICK FACT: Dessy joined the school district in 1963 as a teacher at Twin Lakes Elementary. He became an administrator in 1969 when he was appointed dean of boys at Dowdell Junior High School. Dessy got his bachelor's degree at Clarion State University in Clarion, Penn. He got a master's degree at the University of South Florida.

Citrus Park Elementary

PRINCIPAL: Joan Bookman

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Carrollwood Elementary

REPLACED: Carol Conda

QUICK FACT: Before joing the district in 1988, Bookman was an elementary and high school teacher in Savannah, Ga. She has degrees from Florida State University, Georgia Southern University and the University of South Florida.

PRINCIPAL: Donna Ares

PREVIOUS POSITION: Assistant principal at Hunter's Green Elementary

REPLACED: Barbara Hancock

QUICK FACT: Ares first came to the district in 1973 as a teacher at Crestwood Elementary. She became an administrator in 1994 when she was appointed assistant principal at Bryan Elementary.

PRINCIPAL: Lisa Yost

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Cannella Elementary

REPLACED: New school

QUICK FACT: Yost began her career in 1981 as a primary teacher at Carrollwood Elementary. She has also taught at Citrus Park and Caboon Elementary. In 1988, she was appointed assistant principal at Grady Elementary and was named principal of that school in 1990. In 1996, she took over as principal at Cannella.

PRINCIPAL: Lamar Hammer

PREVIOUS POSITION: General director of transportation until his retirement in December 1999

REPLACED: Darlene Choe

QUICK FACT: Hammer began his career in 1970 as a teacher at Lomax Elementary. He has been a principal at Mendenhall, Bellamy, Maniscalco, and Mabry elementaries.

PRINCIPAL: Velia Pedrero

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Twin Lakes Elementary

REPLACED: K. Todd Schofer

QUICK FACT: Pedrero joined the district in 1969 as a teacher at Sulphur Springs Elementary. She got her first principal job in 1989 at Orange Grove Elementary.

PRINCIPAL: George Gaffney

PREVIOUS POSITION: Assistant principal at Gaither High School

REPLACED: K. Lynn Wade

QUICK FACT: This is Gaffney's second stint at Adams. He was a teacher there from 1985 to 1993, before he moved up to assistant principal at B.T. Washington Middle School. He also held an administrative position at King High School before going to Gaither in 1998.

PRINCIPAL: Barbara Hancock

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Hunter's Green Elementary

REPLACED: Lewis Brinson

QUICK FACT: Hancock joined the district in 1984 as a teacher at Lutz Elementary. Her first principal appointment came in 1991 at Dale Mabry Elementary. Before coming to Tampa, Hancock worked for three years as a teacher in Pasadena, Texas.

PRINCIPAL: Sandy Bunkin

PREVIOUS POSITION: Principal at Robinson High School

REPLACED: New school

QUICK FACT: Bunkin received her undergraduate degree at Cleveland State University, got a master's degree at the University of South Florida and a doctorate at Nova University. She has been a teacher and administrator in Hillsborough County since 1977. Before that, she taught elementary school for four years in Beachwood, Ohio.
