NIGHT OF BLUEGRASS, FOLK AND HUMOR: Gilbert Hancock and Carla Ulbrich share the stage during a double-bill concert with an entertaining night of folk, bluegrass and humor. Hancock started playing the five-string banjo at age 7. He has won the Florida State Banjo Championship twice.

Ulbrich has been compared to everyone from Christine Lavin to Chet Atkins and Jerry Seinfeld. She began studying classical guitar at age 9. She has won numerous awards and has three recordings to her credit with the latest CD titled Carla Ulbrich -- Her Famous Debut. The concert is at 8 tonight at Unitarian Universalist Church, 11400 Morris Bridge Road, near Interstate 75. Cost is $10 at the door. For information, call (813) 218-3463.

BASTARD SONS OF JOHNNY CASH: This southern California alternative country band formed from the remains of a blues band in 1995. Their stardom has risen since Merle Haggard hand picked them for his opening act on his 1999 tour. They also played at Willie Nelson's annual Fourth of July picnic. Also performing the same night is Ronny Elliott and the Nationals, a Tampa music icon since the '60s. The band plays everything from Elvis and Chuck Berry to Jerry Lee.

Also performing is Elston Gunnn, playing alternative country. Everyone in this four-piece band comes from musical families with diverse backgrounds. Influences range from Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Merle Haggard and Joe Pass. They are working on a new CD being produced by Bobby Croft, an Allman Brothers alumnus.

The show starts at 5 p.m. Sunday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, just off Nebraska Avenue. Cost is $7 at the door. For information, call (813) 971-0666.
