Dunedin, which captured the Southern Regional title Wednesday in Biloxi, Miss., will begin World Series play today in Easley, S.C.

Dunedin (ages 17-18) will play its opening game at 6 p.m. against West Region champion Southern California. Its second game is at 3 p.m. Sunday against Central champion Indiana, and its third game is at 8:45 p.m. Monday against host South Carolina District 1.

Dunedin will get two days off before completing pool play Thursday against East champion Pennsylvania. The top two teams in the pool will play for the United States title Friday, and the U.S. champion will meet the winner of the International pool (Canada, Latin America, Europe and Far East) in the World Championship game Saturday.

Dunedin coach Dave Eggers anticipates a pitching rotation of Josh Whittle, Mike White and Shawn Williams, with Chris Pachik, John Irving, Jon Shapland and Billy Phillips coming out of the bullpen. Whittle, White and Williams each had complete-game wins in the Southern Regional.

"The guys are pretty psyched. They're really pumped up about playing in the World Series," Eggers said. "In baseball, you never know, but I knew this team was good enough to compete at any level. The defense is excellent, there's good pitching depth and they put the ball in play."
