Teenager accused of burglary, theftsBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published August 8, 2000 LARGO -- A 17-year-old was arrested Sunday and accused of sneaking into a Largo man's apartment to steal valuables. Jason P. George of 3163 N Huntington Drive in Largo was charged with burglary to an occupied dwelling and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, police said. The burglary happened at 4:45 a.m. at an apartment near the teen's home. Police said Walter Anderson, 82, who uses a motorized cart to get around, was asleep when the teen went into his apartment and took the cart. George drove the cart for a joy ride and then returned, taking a VCR, a compact disc player and a 12-pack of Budweiser beer from the apartment to a hiding spot near the home, police said. Anderson's neighbors saw George outside the apartment and notified police, who found him near the apartment and arrested him. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
