    Bus route to serve cultural park area

    Riders now have access to Heritage Village and other attractions at Pinewood Cultural Park.

    LARGO -- Lovers of art, nature and history can now reach the 182-acre Pinewood Cultural Park by bus.

    Since Sunday, the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority has been offering limited bus service to the park via Route 61, which runs between Dunedin and the Indian Rocks Shopping Center. The service will be offered weekdays and weekends, stopping in front of the Gulf Coast Museum of Art, 12211 Walsingham Road, Largo.

    From the art museum, visitors can also reach Heritage Village, the Florida Botanical Gardens and the Pinellas County Cooperative Extension Service through a series of bridges. All are part of Pinewood Cultural Park, bounded on the west by 125th Street; the east by 119th Street; Ulmerton Road on the north and Walsingham Road on the south in Largo.

    The Route 61 bus traveling from the Indian Rocks Shopping Center will stop at the art museum at 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. and 12:15, 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 11:50 a.m. and 1:20, 2:50 and 4:20 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

    Traveling south from Dunedin, the bus will stop at Pinewood Cultural Park at 10:40 and 11:40 a.m. and 12:40, 1:40, 2:40 and 3:40 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 11:15 a.m. and 12:45, 2:15 and 3:45 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.     Hours for the various components of Pinewood Cultural Park are:

    HERITAGE VILLAGE -- Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday; 1-4 p.m., Sundays. Closed Mondays and major holidays. Call 582-2123.

    GULF COAST MUSEUM OF ART -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday; noon-4 p.m., Sunday. Closed Mondays. Call 518-6833.

    FLORIDA BOTANICAL GARDENS -- Open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Call 582-2200.

    PINELLAS COUNTY EXTENSION SERVICE WELCOME CENTER -- Open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 582-2100.
