Friends of Deborah Vincent, the longtime leader of the Clearwater Public Housing Authority, have set up a scholarship fund to help students who live in public housing.

Donations should be sent to the attention of Cindy Tully, director of programs and development at the Pinellas County Education Foundation, 12090 Starkey Road, Largo, 33773.

Checks should be made to the Deborah Vincent Memorial Scholarship.

Vincent, 43, died last month of leukemia.

In her 16 years as executive director, Vincent helped transform the authority to a respected, innovative agency. She also led the Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Leadership Pinellas and other civic organizations.

She left Clearwater in 1997 to become deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

She later served as deputy housing commissioner for the city of Baltimore.
