New in town
O frabjous day for Frappucino! Downtown St. Petersburg chortled in its joy: A Starbucks of its own! After opening at Albertson's, Barnes & Noble, Tampa International Airport, Palm Harbor and Tampa, the java 'n' jive chain has brought the BayWalk garage its coffee, sweets and gift of a place to gab (195 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg).
TIP OF THE TOQUE
Wine Spectator magazine's 2001 list of wine lists again has Bern's in Tampa on its honor roll as a grand award winner (which it has been since 1981 with one exception). Bijou Cafe and Cafe l'Europe in Sarasota were tapped for "Best of" honors. Tampa Bay bagged a score of Awards of Excellence too: Alfano's, Clearwater; Armani's, Tampa; Bob Heilman's Beachcomber, Clearwater; Cafe Baci, Sarasota; Columbia, Tampa; Donatello, Tampa; Fetishes, St. Pete Beach; Fleming's, Tampa; Fred's, Sarasota; Grill at Feather Sound; Jackson's Bistro, Tampa; Paul's Surfside, Clearwater; Kelly's, Dunedin; Maritana Grille, St. Pete Beach; Michael's on East, Sarasota; Mise en Place, Tampa; Oystercatchers, Tampa; Ruth's Chris, Tampa; Salt Rock Grill, Indian Rocks Beach; Tio Pepe, Clearwater.
I'LL HAVE ANOTHER . . .
Chili dog . . . Hot dogs taste like summer, especially with chili on 'em. American Dog (6297-A Central Ave., St. Petersburg (727) 343-4718) serves up chili and cole slaw on West Virginia dogs, Georgia supremes and others. Brands include Vienna Beef, Hebrew National, Nathan's, Sabrett, Kayem, Zweigle (white and red), Gwaltney and Lykes.
