Mutiny coach is finedBy RODNEY PAGE © St. Petersburg Times, published August 10, 2000 Major League Soccer's disciplinary committee has fined Mutiny coach Tim Hankinson $2,000 for remarks he made about officiating in the Aug. 2 game against Chicago. Hankinson was critical of center referee Misail Tsapos, who called a foul in the box against defender Joe Addo that led to the winning penalty kick in a 1-0 loss. "It's some of the worst officiating I've seen in MLS," Hankinson said at the time. A week later, Hankinson isn't backing down, though he is glad the issue is resolved. "The league has laid judgment, and now there's closure," he said. Three Mutiny players were fined, and one of them also was suspended, for actions during the Chicago game. Forward Mamadou Diallo was fined $1,000 and suspended for one game. Defender Steve Trittschuh and midfielder Dominic Kinnear were fined $500 each. Hankinson sent commissioner Don Garber a letter inviting him to come to Tampa and explain the officiating and the fines. Hankinson said the league received the letter and Garber told him he would come down at a later date. © St. Petersburg Times. All rights reserved. |
