Who's hotBy Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published August 10, 2000 After nine second-place finishes in her career, Lori Kane broke through with LPGA victory No. 1 at the Michelob Light Classic. A Canadian, Kane gets to play in her country's major championship, the du Maurier, this week as a proud tournament winner. Who's notHeading into next week's PGA Championship, 1995 champion Steve Elkington is struggling to find his game. He doesn't have a top-10 finish this year and has finished among the top 30 just once. Elkington has been plagued by injuries and allergies throughout his career and has played in just 14 events. He is 146th on the money list with $162,393. Quotable"The altitude here is similar to that at my home in Johannesburg (6,300 feet). I was hitting the ball so long I felt like Tarzan -- or maybe Tiger Woods." -- Ernie Els, on how altitude affects the distance a golf ball travels when playing at the International in Colorado. © St. Petersburg Times.
