Civic association to hand out Guv'na funds at Thursday meeting

LUTZ -- A record $20,766 in guv'na proceeds is to be doled out Thursday to local civic groups. The Lutz Civic Association, which sponsors the annual competition, plans to distribute the money among these causes:

  • Boy Scout Troop 12, for lanterns and walkie-talkies.
  • Boy Scout Troop 212, for tents.
  • The Old Lutz School Building, for insurance and electricity costs.
  • Junior Master Gardener Program at Nye Park, for supplies.
  • Joshua House children's home for replacement carpet and meals on a day trip.
  • Lutz Elementary School, for an intermediate playground.
  • Lutz Nature Park, for the boardwalk and entrance landscaping.
  • Lutz Volunteer Fire Department, for renovations and landscaping.
  • Train depot, for park lighting and a concert series.
  • Lutz Branch Library, for a reading program for low-income children.
  • Repair reserve fund for "Welcome to Lutz" signs.

The Civic Association also plans Thursday night to recognize George Sturdivant, a building contractor who paid for the welcome signs.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lutz Community Center, U.S. 41 near Lutz-Lake Fern Road.
