ROTARY CLUB: The New Tampa Rotary Club will host its weekly breakfast meeting at 7 a.m. in the Palms Room at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, 5811 Tampa Palms Blvd. There will be no speaker. Committee meetings and reports are planned for this Club Assembly meeting. Membership is open to professional and business men and women who live or work in the New Tampa area. MODULAR RAILROAD: The railroad hobbyists of the Twelve Oaks Modular Club will have a modular railroad set up at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 8401 W Hillsborough Ave. Running hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday. SCHOOLS DAY AT FOREST HILLS CHURCH: Forest Hills Presbyterian Church will host "Education Sunday'' today to recognize educators and pray for a safe and successful school year. Special invitations have gone out to faculty and administrators at Chamberlain High, Adams Middle School and Forest Hills Elementary School. TOWN & COUNTRY ALLIANCE: George Howell will give a presentation on the Tampa Bay History Center at the next meeting of the Town & Country Alliance. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 8401 W Hillsborough Ave. The public is invited to come learn about the rich history of the Tampa Bay area and the community's plan to preserve it. CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION CLASSES: University Community Hospital-Women's Center, 3100 E Fletcher Ave., is offering childbirth preparation classes from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays beginning Aug. 16. The six-part course is designed to prepare expectant couples for all phases of labor and delivery. Topics include: what to expect in the hospital, how to tell if you are in labor, relaxation and breathing exercises for labor and birth, medications and anesthetics used during childbirth, postpartum information, and infant and child CPR. There also will be a tour of the Women's Center. The cost is $65 per couple for the course. For information or to register, call (813) 615-7999.

RETIREMENT LIVING SEMINAR: University Village, 12401 N 22nd St., will host a seminar on the benefits of retirement living in continuing care facilities at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow the free lecture. Seating is limited. For information, call (800) 524-5020.

Looking ahead

YMCA GRAND OPENING: The New Tampa Family YMCA will celebrate its grand opening under the Big Top on Aug 18. The circus-themed event will kick off at 8:45 a.m. with breakfast, donated by Panera bread, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Visitors may tour the facility from 9:30 a.m. to noon and then enjoy music by the pool until 4 p.m. The event will also feature juggling shows, circus performers, balloon art, face painting, snow cones and popcorn throughout the day. Everybody is invited to this free event. The YMCA is at 16221 Compton Drive in Tampa Palms. For information, call (813) 866-9622.
