It's a pool partyBy KELLY STEFANI © St. Petersburg Times, published August 11, 2000 Teens can get out and cool down at the Extreme Pool Party from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at North Shore Pool, 901 North Shore Drive NE, St. Petersburg. Fun and games include raft tag, splash contests, sharks and minnows and relay races. For the brave ones, take a turn on the high dive. All diving boards will be open. On dry land, there will be volleyball games throughout the evening. Hot dogs, drinks, chips and candy will be available for sale. All events are fully supervised by city lifeguards and teen program employees. Open to youngsters in grades 6 through 12. Admission is $4 per person. Once you exit, you will not be readmitted. Gun show in TampaGun collectors won't want to miss the Suncoast Gun Show and Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds, U.S. 301 off I-4, Tampa. A wide variety of firearms and related items will be available. Items will include hard-to-find gun parts, gun-related tools, ammunition, knives, cases, locks, cartridge boxes, belts and collectible firearms. Gun experts will be on hand to help identify and appraise firearms. Gunsmiths will also be available to make repairs. Admission is $6 adults, children under 12 free. Parking is $4. Call (813) 621-7821. Fun in the JungleSarasota Jungle Gardens is marking the season with a Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the gardens, 3701 Bayshore Road, Sarasota. Entertainment includes stories and antics by Aunt Mary Sunshine and face painting by Neon the Clown. All children receive free hot dogs, chips, ice cream and drinks. Have your picture taken with Wally Gator, Felicia Flamingo, Morton the Monkey and other giant characters. Admission includes unlimited access to the 10-acre garden/zoo. Shows include Birds of Prey, Meet the Keeper, Critters and Things, Reptile Encounter and Birds of the Rainforest. Children can also enjoy pony rides and a petting zoo with donkeys and goats. Sarasota Jungle Gardens is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $9 adults, $8 seniors, $5 ages 3-12, under 3 free. Call (941) 355-1112. Ice cream social with the MutinyJoin players from the Tampa Bay Mutiny for a cool celebration with clowns, face painting and frozen treats -- all for a good cause -- from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Maggie Moo's Ice Cream and Treatery in the Plaza at Citrus Park Town Center mall, 12891 Citrus Plaza Drive, Tampa. Children can get their face painted by Clara Belle and enjoy continuous entertainment by Jumbo the Clown and the Fritzy Brothers One-Man Circus. Maggie Moo herself and Mutiny players will be available for photos throughout the event. There will be more than 40 flavors of ice cream to sample as well as fruit smoothies, waffle cones, ice cream cakes, fudge and milkshakes.
