Letters to the EditorsLetters of thanks
© St. Petersburg Times, published August 11, 2000 Editor: Thank you so much for your article on the New Port Richey Swim Team "Tidal Waves." As a grandparent of one of the team members I know how hard they practice and how dedicated their parents are. They practice five days a week with swim meets three to four times a month. Swimming not only strengthens the body but disciplines the mind. I am very proud of the team and their coach, Dale Kilgore.
Editor: I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended the Fourth of July picnic at the Disabled American Veterans chapter home. This picnic was sponsored by the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 78. Thanks especially to everyone who brought a child. Thanks to McDonald's on State Road 52 in Hudson, McDonald's on Little Road, New Port Richey, and Burger King at U.S. 19 and Main Street, New Port Richey; Port Richey Councilman Joseph Menicola for his very moving Independence Day remarks; the New Port Richey Fire Department for bringing a firetruck and permitting the children to climb into the truck and for providing the children with pamphlets containing fire safety information; Rick Hughes for his donation of time and for the use of two horses; the ladies of the auxiliary for donating time, decorations, prizes and food. It took many hands to make this work. I also want to thank our junior members for all their help. These young ladies are the future. This was the auxiliary's way of giving something to the children of the community. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all who helped make this picnic a big success. It goes to show what can be accomplished through comradeship and cooperation.
Editor: I was recently in North Bay Rehabilitation Center recovering from a complete knee replacement. Being there for two weeks made me realize what an outstanding center it is. It is kept extremely clean on a daily basis; the food was very palatable; the medical staff was very professional and caring; all of the rehab techs were quite knowledgeable in their therapeutics and applied these freely; there was much concern for the patient not only in helping to reach a maximum functional level, but also in teaching the patient the skills to reach those goals. Their hard work helped me to reach mine. Thank you North Bay for giving me back my functional independence.
