The Hernando County Debs softball team saw its run at a second straight Dixie World Series championship come to an end.

Hernando suffered a 14-2 whipping from Humphreys County, Tenn., Wednesday night in Muscle Shoals, Ala. The Debs were in trouble from the start, allowing three runs in the first inning and six runs in the second. Humphreys County put away the game with five runs in the sixth inning. Hernando County scored its only runs in the first and was shut down the rest of the way.

The Debs, who advanced to the tournament after capturing a state title last month, won their first two Dixie games before losing back-to-back matchups. Tennessee played the host team from Muscle Shoals on Thursday to decide the championship.

The county will have to settle for one Dixie champion this year.

The Majors baseball team won a title last week in Euless, Texas, for Hernando's first Dixie baseball championship in 17 years.

Many of the players on the Debs were part of the 15-and-under Belles softball squad that won its Dixie World Series in Evans, Ga., last summer.
