Briefs and news of note
Labor Day weekend will be here before you know it, bringing with it the annual Home Show at the Tampa Convention Center. More than 750 exhibits will offer remodeling, decorating, landscaping and furnishing ideas. Jot this on the calendar: The show runs 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 2 and 3. Admission is $6.50 adults, children under 12 free with adult, seniors $5.50. The convention center is at 333 S Franklin St.
Speaking of Labor Day, if the big barbecue or pool party is at your house this year, here's advice from Jeff Campbell, household cleaner extraordinaire: Welcome volunteers in the kitchen and plan for the extra bodies by putting out extra containers for dirty cutlery, trash, table scraps and linens (think assembly line). Wash pots and pans first, followed by smaller items. Use the dishwasher for as much as possible. Do hand washables last, after most of the mess has been cleared away and only a few helpers are left. That will reduce breakage.
