Pinellas Park finally annexes Sam's Club
PINELLAS PARK -- After years of trying, officials on Thursday annexed the Sam's Club into the city.
"I'm really glad to see that," Mayor Bill Mischler said. "That's a nice source of revenue."
The discount store, at 7031 Park Blvd., a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Inc., will bring in an estimated $92,000 a year in taxes. The City Council agreed to waive $70,000 in development and occupational license fees for the store.
City buys property for train station
PINELLAS PARK -- The council's long-held dream of building a train station on Park Boulevard to serve as a city center moved a step closer to reality.
Pinellas Park council members agreed on Thursday to pay $175,000 for three lots at 5900 Railroad Ave. and 5936 76th Ave. N that eventually will be used as a parking area.
The train station will house the Pinellas Park/Mid-County Chamber of Commerce, the Pinellas Park Art and Historical societies, and some city offices.
