Students only need to register once during their school career in Pinellas County. If a family moves out of the zone for one school, proof of residence must be taken to the new school and a change-of-address form must be completed at that school.

WHEN? Students who move into the county during the school year may register immediately. They do not need to wait for a designated registration period.

Registration for all new prekindergarten through eighth-grade students for the upcoming school year is generally held the first two weeks in May and again before the start of school. To register students in May, parents must have all required documents. They may not do a partial registration in May and complete the process in August.

High school students who are new to Pinellas County Schools are encouraged to register as soon as they arrive.

WHERE? Students must register at their zoned schools unless they have been accepted into a magnet or choice program. Then they must register at that school. Parents can register their children at their zoned school during regular school hours. Some evening and weekend hours are available. Call the school in your zone for times. If you do not know your zone, call (727) 588-6210.

SPECIAL ATTENDANCE PERMITS

Special attendance permits, or SAPs, allow students to attend a school other than their zoned school. They are given if certain criteria are met. A student's enrollment cannot cause overcrowding or adversely affect the racial balance at the chosen school. SAPs are good for one school year only. Students who wish to attend a theme school outside of their zone must apply for an SAP. If you have questions about SAPs call (727) 588-6210.

DOCUMENTATION NEEDED FOR REGISTRATION

1. Declaration of Domicile. Required only if parents or guardians have not lived in Florida for at least a year before enrolling a student, are not in the military or do not own a home in Pinellas County.

2. Birth certificate or other proof of birth date. A child must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 for kindergarten.

3. Florida Certificate of Immunization.

4. Physical examination certificate signed by a licensed examiner within 12 months prior to registration. A letter saying the child had a physical is not acceptable.

5. Proof of residency. A utility bill, rental or lease agreement with a parent's or guardian's name and address is acceptable.
