A few philosophies on playing the position at UF from Gators coach Steve Spurrier:

"Quarterbacking is about making smart decisions and making bad plays (into) good plays."

"If we have two good players and one struggles, we will use the other player. I'm not afraid to do that."

"Rex Grossman and Brock Berlin will start the preseason even. We will let one be the starter for one day and one the next day. Hopefully we can name a starter and he'll have the opportunity to go the year."

"Some coaches really hate using two quarterbacks, but of the (six) SEC titles we've won, three times we played two quarterbacks. It can be done as long as you convince your players it's no big deal."

"I'm hoping one of them (Berlin or Grossman) will clearly win the job. I'm hoping we don't go back and forth."

"You don't have to worry about the head coach chewing you out when you call a bad one. I would guess an offensive coordinator feels, "I better follow the plan and not call something the head ball coach wouldn't like.' You have a lot of freedom to call whatever you want when you want."
