Republic Bank in St. Petersburg has announced the following appointments: Carol M. Harwoodhas been named senior vice president and director of marketing and Mauro Harto executive vice president, residential lending manager.

Construction

Chris Wickberg has been named vice president, Tampa operations, at Beers Construction Co. Wickberg is directing the Holly student housing and Sun Dome roof replacement projects at the University of South Florida for Beers.

Financial

Raymond James & Associates Inc. in St. Petersburg has announced that William E. Waldeck and Michael J. Walker have been named managing directors, investment banking. Waldeck and Walker join the firm's equity capital markets financial services group in Chicago.

Health care

Largo Medical Center has announced the following appointments: Thomas D. Feaster has been named to the board of trustees; Andrew Hano, chief of staff; and Kimberly A. Dean, vice chief of staff.

Jerry Morrison has been named chairman of the board at Axolotl Corp. in Tampa. Morrison is president and chief executive.

Northside Hospital and Heart Institute in St. Petersburg has announced the following appointments: Betsy Bomar has been named chief operations officer and Shalin Shah chief financial officer.

Hospitality

Lee Hunter has been named sales cluster manager at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg. Hunter was an intern at Donaldson Brown Hotel and Conference Center and is a recent graduate of Virginia Tech's hospitality and tourism management program.

Insurance

Tom Longtha has been named director of risk management and team leader in the commercial lines department at DavisBaldwin Insurance and Risk Management in Tampa.

Miscellaneous

Michael J. Blackburn has been named vice president of benefits at Walter Industries in Tampa. Blackburn was an actuary and retirement consultant at William M. Mercer Inc. in Tampa.

FAFCO Tampa has announced the following appointments: Mary Schipper has been named director of customer service and William Kyger sales associate.

JLM Industries Inc. in Tampa has announced the following appointments: Sandra L. Jacques has been named corporate controller; Jerry A. Dunn, director of customer service and electronic commerce; Jeffrey L. Ulbrich, vice president of sales, chemicals and engineered resins; and Gregory A. Taylor, phenol sales manager.

Sophia Nakis has been named gallery director at MacArthur Galleries in Tampa. Nakis was director of sales and marketing at Raymond Lawrence Gallery in Atlanta.

Charity Works Inc. has announced the election of Paige Fisher Simpson to its board. Karen Williams Seel and Dick Crippen have been named to the organization's advisory board.

John D. Emmanuel has been named secretary of the business law section of the Florida Bar. Emmanuel is a partner and member of the business litigation department at the law firm of Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal and Banker in Tampa.

David C. Shobe has been elected chairman of the board of directors at Metropolitan Ministries and has been appointed to the Governor's Commission on the Homeless. Shobe is a partner and chairman of the operations committee at the law firm of Fowler, White, Gillen, Boggs, Villareal and Banker in Tampa.

Rebecca Smith has received the Distinguished Women in Business Award from theTampa Bay Business Journal. Smith is president and owner of A.D. Morgan Corp.

Mark J. Wolfson has been named chairman of the financial services committee of the Florida Bar's business law section. Wolfson is a partner and vice chair of the national business reorganization and creditor's litigation group at the law firm of Foley & Lardner in Tampa.

Hill and Knowlton in Tampa has announced the following appointments: Ron Bartlett has been named account supervisor and Lyn Acer senior account supervisor.

Restaurant

Gary P. Bennett has been named president and chief operating officer at Durango Steak House in Clearwater. Bennett was chief operating officer at Grupo Zena.

Telecommunications

Verizon Wireless in Tampa has announced the following appointments: Tammy Harrigan-Connor has been named manager of financial reporting and analysis and Aaron Fair manager of business planning and forecasting for the Florida region.
