Manatees shut down Yanks

VIERA -- Jesus Medrano's sacrifice fly drove in Jose Santos in the eighth inning for Monday's only run as the Brevard County Manatees beat the Tampa Yankees 1-0 at Space Coast Stadium.

Manatees pitchers Claudio Vargas and Hector Almonte combined on a three-hitter. Yankees starter Brandon Claussen gave up the run and struck out seven in 71/3 innings.

Medrano had two of Brevard County's four hits.

SARASOTA 8, DUNEDIN 6: Angel Mendoza was 2-for-4 with two RBI for the host Red Sox. Reliever Randy Eversgerd gave up one hit and struck out three to pick up his first win. Tommy Darrell struck out four for his third save.
