Woman injured in crash on State Road 580

OLDSMAR -- A mid-morning crash Tuesday involving a WorldCom communications truck sent a woman to a hospital Tuesday morning with head and shoulder injuries, Pinellas County Sheriff's officials said. Virginia Kaye of 623 Fayatte Drive N in Safety Harbor was driving east on State Road 580 just before 9 a.m. when she tried to make a left turn onto Bayview Boulevard. At that moment, Andrew Hansen, of 6602 Marina Point Drive in Tampa, was driving his WorldCom-owned 1996 Ford F-250 west on S.R. 580, according to Cpl. Glenn Luben of the Sheriff's Office. The two vehicles collided, and Kaye's 1998 Dodge Neon was propelled onto an adjacent railroad track 20 yards northeast of the intersection. CSX Corp., which owns the track, was called, and the stretch was shut down until the wreckage was cleared. Westbound traffic onto S.R. 580 from West Hillsborough Avenue was diverted for more than an hour. Kaye was flown to Bayfront Medical Center, where she was remained in fair condition late Tuesday. Though the cause of the accident was not known Tuesday night, Luben said citations probably will be issued.

School bus routes are available on the Internet

Bus schedules for Pinellas County public schools are available online at the district's Web site. Go to www.pinellas.k12.fl.us. Click on BUS ROUTES, then follow the instructions. It is important to note that the district says it will not keep the page active past Aug. 22 -- the first day of school. If you want a record of the bus schedule as it now stands, you might want to print it out. A suggestion: Don't just click "print," because you will print many, many pages of schedules. To get only the information you want, click and drag your computer's mouse over the information you want, then copy and paste it into a file you create with your word processing software. Parents may also call their children's schools or the school system's transportation help desk at (547-7174) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
