DADE CITY -- A masked gunman robbed a Dade City convenience store Monday morning and then ordered the clerk to lock herself in the bathroom, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported.
The robbery occurred just after the clerk unlocked the door to the Presco Food Store, at the intersection of Fort King Highway and Clinton Avenue, at 5 a.m.
A white man wearing a black stocking mask, black baseball cap, black pullover and black jeans walked in and asked the clerk for keys to the safe, reports said. The clerk said she thought it was a joke until the man pulled a silver-plated handgun out of his pants and pointed it at her head.
After opening the safe, the clerk was ordered by the gunman to go into the bathroom and lock the door behind her.
The clerk, whose name was withheld by the Sheriff's Office, was not injured in the robbery.
The Sheriff's Office did not say how much money was stolen.
The suspect was described as approximately 5 feet 6 and 180 pounds, with a pot belly, according to reports.
