In the beginning . . .

Welcome to Garden of Eden, a one-of-a-kind etching with watercolor by Florence Putterman, now on view at the Tampa Museum of Art. The colorful, rambling objects suggest fragments of a long-ago existence -- among them, a fish, a snake and a couple of humanlike forms. Don't look for a literal reading; Putterman's visual version, like the story in Genesis, is open to interpretation.
Putterman, of Sarasota, is one of 15 exhibitors in the fifth annual "underCURRENT/overVIEW," a showcase of area artists worth noting. Include it in your route tonight during Tampa's monthly gallery walk, 5-8 p.m., when the museum is free, or during regular hours; call (813) 274-8130 for details.
Other walk participants are African Art Gallery and Museum, 1711 W Kennedy Blvd.; Central Library Gallery, 900 N Ashley Drive; Galerie du Soleil, 727 S Dakota Ave.; Gold Dragon Gallery, 3508 S Manhattan Ave.; Grossman Gallery, 1111 Swann Ave.; New Heights Gallery, 6310 N Nebraska Ave.; Nuance Galleries, 720 S Dale Mabry; Old Hyde Park Art Center, 705 Swann Ave.; Romeo Art & Design Gallery, 1515 E Seventh Ave., Ybor City; and Studio Gallery on Azeele, 3707 Azeele St.
For more information call Nuance at (813) 875-0511.
