I'll have another . . .

glass of milk. Don't laugh. I've had enough of high-cost soft drinks. Grabbing a Coke or a Pepsi can add more than a dollar to lunch. Plus soda's wasteful caloric expense is one of our worst dietary habits. Milk's always cheaper and packs a lot of nutrition. Ice water costs even less; no calcium but quite healthful.

Side dish: New in town

Add wood-oven pizzas at the Brickyard and a new branch of the Wine Warehouse to the food and wine cluster at Oak Ramble on Bruce B. Downs in Tampa's newest burbs.

Already open: Jersey Mike's Subs, Papa John's Pizza and an outpost of Tarpon Springs' Louis Pappas restaurant.

Yet to come: a new Trattoria Primadonna, from south Tampa's Cesare Tini.

Caldwell's beach barbecue is gone, but you still smell smoke at Gulfside Place (7081 Gulf Blvd. St. Pete Beach; 727-367-1212); new owners grill steaks, skewers and vegetables on the wood fire. Lunch, $6 to $11; dinner $12 to $25.

In the oven

Bonefish Grill will open in Safety Harbor, at 2519 McMullen-Booth Rd., (727) 726-1315, in October.

Bellarte, opening this fall in the 205-room Radisson in Feather Sound, will give steaks and seafood Italian edge and the culinary style of Ralph Sitero, formerly of Bernini, and lately of Tampa's Ashley Street Grille.

Changing recipe

Restaurateur and ex-Buc Tom McHale's new partner in his Tampa restaurants is Paul Paluzzi. They now call Soho's Tuscan Oven Paluzzi's and freshen the menu with lemon, mints, thyme and such dishes as polenta, eggplant lasagna and sausage with grapes. Portions are big, but menu offers small servings on most entrees too.

They opened a second McHale's Chop House (1215 W Brandon Blvd., Brandon) this spring.
