Felines -- Opening Aug. 28, Cats has a weeklong run at Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. $20.50-$54.50.

Performance art -- Kurt Smith's one-man show embryogenesis is at the Silver Meteor Gallery from Aug. 30 through Sept. 16. $8 and $12.

Violin -- Ellen dePasquale, violin, and Chadd Merrigan, piano, play Beethoven, Schubert, Faure and Ysaye Sept. 2 at the Museum of Fine Arts. $7 and $15.

Thurber -- Gorilla Theatre's staging of A Thurber Carnival, adapted from stories and cartoons of James Thurber, opens Sept. 6. $14 and $17.

New -- Dog & Pony Productions makes its debut Sept. 7-23 with The Sea Horse by Edward J. Moore in Shimberg Playhouse at TBPAC. $15.50.

Laramie -- The Laramie Project by Moises Kaufman opens Sept. 7 in a Stageworks production at Hillsborough Community College in Ybor City. $7-$15.

Tap -- There are two shows of Tap Dogs Sept. 15 at Van Wezel Hall. $35-$45.

Hurston -- Zora Neale Hurston's Spunk is at American Stage Sept. 21-Oct. 14. $20-$30.
