Suspect in spate of recent robberies strikes at an Albertsons

Suspect in spate of recent robberies strikes at an Albertsons

LARGO -- A man suspected in a string of recent robberies struck again Wednesday morning when he robbed a Largo business, then pointed a gun at witnesses as he made his get-away, police reported. The robber walked into the Albertsons at 3825 East Bay Drive about 11:38 a.m., then walked to a South Trust Bank counter in the store. He demanded money from the teller, who complied. As the robber left the store, he pointed a chrome handgun at witnesses. He got into a gray 1986 Mercury Sable with a light-colored roof and drove away. The tag on the get-away car had been stolen from Sarasota County, Largo police spokesman Mac McMullen said. The robber appears to be the same man responsible for at least five other Pinellas County robberies, McMullen said. Investigators think the robber may have used the Sable during each previous robbery. The car was captured on film by surveillance cameras Wednesday, and investigators determined it was a Sable. The robber was described by witnesses as 5-foot-3, Hispanic and wearing a blue baseball cap. He also had a bandage on his left cheek, which police think may have covered an identifying mark, McMullen said. Anyone with information about the suspect can call Largo police at 587-6730.
