Bierbrodt (1-2, 4.76) struck out seven in seven scoreless innings against the Twins on Monday for his first win since being traded from Arizona. He allowed two hits and walked three.
Lohse (3-5, 5.74) has allowed four or more runs in six of his 11 starts this season. He gave up four runs on nine hits in 51/3 innings against the Rays on Monday.
During a discussion about becoming a better hitter before Friday's game against Minnesota, Rays manager Hal McRae engaged in a bit of philosophy. "If you think there's a problem, you try to rectify it. That's not only here, that's in real life. We adjust. If it's raining you get an umbrella. If the sun's shining in your eyes when you're driving, you put your visor down."
