Pinellas horn player joins Tokyo Symphony

Jonathan Hammill, a French horn player from St. Petersburg, recently was named principal horn of the Tokyo Symphony. Hammill, 24, went to Northside Christian School, spent four years in the Pinellas Youth Symphony and studied with Florida Orchestra horn player Carolyn Wahl. He graduated from the Juilliard School in 1999. Hammill won the audition in June and begins playing with the Japanese orchestra this month. For the last three summers, he has performed in the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan.

Dali offers docent class

The Salvador Dali Museum seeks volunteers to train as docents during a weekly program Sept. 19 through May 8.

A course fee of $95 covers all materials, including texts.

The museum is at 1000 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. For a course application, call the museum at (727) 823-3767, ext. 3029, or e-mail cbutler@salvadordalimuseum.org.
