Oldsmar strikes it rich with chamber membership drive

The Oldsmar Chamber of Commerce is in the middle of its annual membership drive, and a Monopoly-type game being used as a theme appears to be a big hit among members.

Players receive chamber "money" each time they visit a participating business and say they are a fellow member. Players then collect the money and have an opportunity to cash it in for gifts and prizes on Oct. 2 at a membership raffle/auction being held at the Holiday Inn and Suites in Oldsmar.

The concept is designed not only to generate new members, but also to show local business people how many chamber members visit their companies every day, said Rita Diehl, the chamber's membership director.

"The purpose is to increase awareness of the fact that chamber people are out there interacting," Diehl said.

Members who encourage others to join the chamber earn $50,000 in play money, Diehl said.

She has been pleased with the success of the promotion so far.

"It's taken on a life of its own," Diehl said. "Businesses have already given out all the money I gave them and are asking for more."

For information on the Chamber's membership drive, contact Diehl at (813) 855-4233.
