Hole of the day

No. 16, par 4, 441 yards

Phil Mickelson had just seized control, making up a two-shot deficit at the 15th hole when he chipped in for birdie while David Toms made bogey. But Mickelson gave it back at the 16th, a relatively benign par 4, that was the seventh-easiest of the day. Mickelson missed the fairway off the tee, and got his approach 40 feet from the pin. He ran his first putt 8 feet by the hole, then missed the par putt, giving Toms a one-shot advantage he would not relinquish. "I had the momentum, I had the honor and had things going my way," Mickelson said. "That's why I felt I needed to make a 3 there and keep momentum. ... That three-putt was the ultimate mistake."

Quote of the Day

"I can't describe it. It really hasn't sunk in. It's something I've always wanted to do. It's a dream come true. It's one of those goals you always set for yourself and never sure if you'll get there. And I made it."
