St. Petersburg Catholic quarterback Chris Davis has been named to the USA Today Super 25 preseason list of the best senior high school football players in America. The list was scheduled to run today in USA Today.

As a junior in 10 games during the regular season, Davis (5 feet 11, 175 pounds) threw for 1,446 yards, completing 74 of 137 passes (54.0 percent) with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also was Pinellas County's second-leading rusher with 1,396 yards on 133 carries (10.5 average) and 16 touchdowns. He led the Barons to the second round of the state playoffs and was chosen first-team All-Suncoast by the Times.

Recruiting expert Chris Lawlor, who selects the Super 25 for USA Today, said he consulted dozens of college coaches and recruiting experts and took a consensus of opinion.

"They all indicated Chris was easily among the best athletes in the nation, if not the best," Lawlor said. "It became clear over the course of the summer that he is one of the most coveted recruits in the nation, whether it's as a quarterback or at another postion. He could play anywhere and excel."

St. Petersburg Catholic coach Dan Mancuso said Davis has more than 50 scholarship offers, including Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Syracuse and Nebraska.
