FOOTBALL: Adam Bure, a 2001 Dunedin graduate, has signed to play football with Methodist, a Division III school in Fayetteville, N.C. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder will play tight end.

TRIATHLON: Patricia Hoffman of Palm Harbor recently won a silver medal in the triathlon in the 50-54 age group in the National Senior Olympics in Baton Rouge, La. Hoffman, 51, finished in 1:16:03. The winning time was 1:09:34.

Hoffman also participated in several swimming events. She finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley and the 50 butterfly; seventh in the 100 freestyle and 50 breaststroke; and eighth in the 50 freestyle.

BASKETBALL: The West Pinellas All-Stars recently captured the St. Petersburg Tasco Summer Extreme junior boys title with a 36-33 win against the Wildwood Recreation Center All-Stars at the Willis Johns Recreation Center. Center John Atari paced West Pinellas with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Jefferson Avila added 8 points and 8 assists.

VOLLEYBALL: East Lake High graduate Tammy Zimmerman has signed to play volleyball at Webber College. Webber coach Bill Heath expects Zimmerman to be a key defensive player and a strong side hitter.

"Tammy was a big recruit for us," he said, "as she will help us defensively and I believe she will help to push our current outside hitters."

SAILING: The Boca Ciega Yacht Club is hosting Sail with Braille, a community project to help blind and visually impaired children experience sailing. The event is Sept. 22 and is open to ages 11-18. For information call Diane Homa, (727) 864-0352.
