INVERNESS -- The Eagles Club is teaming up with Citrus Community Blood Bank to hold a blood drive in honor of Maureen Vetromila. Donors can give the gift of life from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the clubhouse, 8733 E Gulf to Lake Highway.

Vetromila is the sister of local resident Jean Ruprecht. Vetromila, 43, of Melrose, Ill., is using a great deal of blood components in her battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Although the donated blood will remain in Florida for local patients, holding the blood drive in her sister's honor gave Ruprecht an opportunity to help from a distance. This blood drive also will establish a group account for the Eagles Club, which will place members under the Blood Donor Benefit Program.

Donors receive a recognition T-shirt and a cholesterol screening. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 103 pounds and show a valid photo identification. Citrus Community Blood Bank, a LifeSouth blood center, is the sole supplier of blood components for Citrus County medical facilities. LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is a nonprofit, charitable organization that supplies blood components to more than 70 medical facilities in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. For information, call 527-3061.
