Out & aboutBy MARY ELMORE
© St. Petersburg Times, ELVIS COSTELLO BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE: WMNF-FM 88.5 music director and disc jockey Flee admits he doesn't know Elvis Costello's exact age, since various sources cite Costello as being born on Aug. 25 in either 1954 or 1955. But regardless of the actual birth year, the big-time Costello aficionado has organized Saturday's birthday bash to pay homage to the critically acclaimed songwriter and singer who helped introduce the British punk and new wave scene in the 1970s to "musiphiles" everywhere. Fifteen local bands are scheduled to perform, each playing at least three Costello tunes. Expect to hear favorites like Alison, Mystery Dance, Pump it Up and Radio, Radio. The lineup includes Barely Pink, Rock Steady @ 8, Ronny Elliot & the Nationals, The Unrequited Loves, Pagan Saints, The Thrusters, Paul Reller and the Distractions, Bob Anthony, Crabgrass Cowboys, Handshake Squad, Fallopian Tubes, Spacious International, Ghetto Love Sugar, Sparky's Nightmare and The Straight Up Blues Band. Tickets are $10 at the door; all proceeds will benefit WMNF. The show begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, just east of Nebraska Avenue.
