Owner suspects vandals in theft of 11 pigeons

NEW PORT RICHEY -- When Alan Frampton went out back of his home on Lakeview Drive on Wednesday morning, he found that burglars had made off with some strange loot: his trained pigeons.

Frampton, 63, who trains the pigeons for a living, told Pasco County sheriff's deputies that during the night, someone went into the pigeon loft in his back yard and made off with 11 trained pigeons, valued at $300 apiece. The thieves also took a feed bag and a bird waterer.

Sheriff's deputies have no suspects, and Frampton said he believed it was the work of young vandals.

Woman charged with defrauding elderly man

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 64-year old Spring Hill woman was charged Wednesday with scheme to defraud and grand theft after she was accused of taking signed blank checks from a sick man to pay his bills and instead using the money for herself.

According to her arrest report, Wilda Tuomey, 15745 Dunning Ct., was arrested at 9 a.m. Tuesday. The report said she befriended an 85-year-old man over a nine-month period when he was in a hospital. The report said he signed blank checks and gave them to her to pay his bills, but she cashed eight of them for herself, totaling more than $2,600.

Tuomey was released Wednesday from the jail in Land O'Lakes on $10,000 bail.
