DADE CITY -- Bradenton-based Bealls Inc. plans to add to its local presence this fall, with work already under way on a Bealls Outlet discount store along U.S. 301.

The discount outlet is scheduled to go into the same Dade Village shopping center occupied by a Bealls Department Store. The discount outlet store will go into the shopping center spot formerly occupied by a Walgreens drugstore.

Chain spokeswoman Peggy Colburn said the new outlet is expected to open by the end of September. There are no plans to close the Bealls department store already in the shopping center, she said.

Bealls has maintained a discount outlet alongside its department store in Zephyrhills for years.

Bealls Inc. operates 215 retail stores in Florida, Georgia, Arizona and Alabama with more than 4,000 employees. The company reports it typically locates in strip shopping centers to offer consumers a hometown alternative to regional shopping malls.
