Starving" artists benefit concert

A promotional and fundraising concert for the locally produced film Starving will be held Aug. 31 at Clearwater's Royalty Theatre, 405 Cleveland St. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 7. Six bands, including the Gita and Mindtrippin, will perform. Tickets are $10 general admission and $15 for VIP front-row seats. Starving is a drug-abuse drama written and directed by Michael Fuchs and produced by Tony Verde. Proceeds will go toward postproduction costs. Festivals directory available

Art festival followers may now order the 16th edition of Florida Festivals: Who, What, When & Where, a listing of nearly 400 arts and crafts shows throughout Florida.

Published by the Pinellas County Arts Council, it includes dates, locations and other information on shows between September 2001 and December 2002. Though originally compiled for artists, the directory has become popular with art lovers who want to know when favorite shows will take place.

Competitions for artists

27th International Miniature Art Show, sponsored by Miniature Art Society of Florida at Dunedin Fine Art Center, Jan. 20-Feb. 10, 2002. Works must conform to miniature art guidelines. Most mediums (painting, graphics, sculpture and calligraphy); no crafts, photos or photo techniques. First-time entrants should send a No. 10 stamped, self-addressed envelope to MASF Prospectus, P.O. Fame game

Neil Adamson of South Pasadena, Heidi Presse of Tampa and Sandra Williams of Tierra Verde are among the 100 artists nationwide selected for the 2001 Arts for the Parks, a touring program sponsored by the National Park Academy of the Arts in conjunction with the National Park Foundation. Their work will travel to several locations throughout the United States during the coming year. ... St. Petersburg artist Fred Szabries is exhibiting in a one-person show at Passions Gallery, Provincetown, Mass.
