Former Times editor Weston J. McIntyre

© St. Petersburg Times, ST. PETERSBURG -- Weston J. McIntyre, a former columnist and editor for the St. Petersburg Times, died Friday (Aug. 24, 2001) at 72. Mrs. McIntyre came to the Times in 1956, and under the name Weston Ermatinger, wrote a daily column, Parties and People, for the Women's Section. She was the society editor and was named food editor in 1959. She also wrote other columns, including Weston's Questions, the World of Weston and the Breezeway. She came here in 1937 from her native Jackson, Miss. After graduating from St. Petersburg High School in 1947, she attended the University of Kentucky for a year, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. While a junior in high school, she was chosen a Webb's City Florida Poster Girl of the Week. She was a member of the Junior League, was a chamber of commerce information specialist and enjoyed taking long-distance cruises. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, W. Scott Jr.; two sons, William Steven Ermatinger, New Port Richey, and William Albert Ermatinger Jr., Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Leslie Ermatinger Gunther and Laurie Ermatinger Copeland, both of St. Petersburg; two brothers; a sister; a cousin, Suzzane Hannahs Wright; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 4400 Shore Acres Blvd., St. Petersburg. The family suggests contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1839 Central Ave., St. Petersburg, FL 33713.
