Cubs outfielder shelved again

CHICAGO -- Cubs outfielder Rondell White was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Saturday after dislocating his left shoulder in a game against the Dodgers.

There was no immediate word on White's status, but manager Don Baylor didn't sound optimistic.

"I don't know how long he's going to be out, but he's not going to play for a while," Baylor said. "I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow to see if we have to disable Rondell."

The injury-prone White jammed the shoulder in the sixth inning as he tried to steal second, sliding headfirst. He was thrown out, and he got up holding his left arm.

A trainer started working on his shoulder as soon as he returned to the dugout.

"It's tough," Cubs shortstop Ricky Gutierrez said. "He was starting to come on and to see him go down like that is tough."

White came to the Cubs on July 31 in a trade with the Expos. He was on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring when he arrived, and wasn't activated until Aug. 6.

Dodger players subpoenaed

CHICAGO -- Manager Davey Johnson and 16 Dodgers players were served subpoenas by attorneys for two Cubs fans who were charged with disorderly conduct after a May 16 brawl with Los Angeles players at Wrigley Field.

General manager Kevin Malone was also among the 21 members of the Dodgers organization subpoenaed.

"Just because we've accepted the subpoenas doesn't mean we're going to show up," Michael Abernathy, the Chicago attorney representing the Dodgers, said. "We're going to file a motion with a judge to strike the subpoenas, based on distance, need and inconvenience."

The lawyer for fan Charles Carlin subpoenaed 16 players and three coaches: pitchers Eric Gagne, Chan Ho Park, Mike Fetters, Terry Adams, Alan Mills, Antonio Osuna, Onan Masaoka, Carlos Perez and Darren Dreifort; catchers Chad Kreuter and Todd Hundley; outfielders F.P. Santangelo, Geronimo Berroa, Gary Sheffield and Shawn Green; infielder Eric Karros; and coaches Rick Dempsey, John Shelby and Glenn Hoffman.

Also, outfielder Bruce Aven was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque by the Dodgers, who optioned right-handed pitcher Mike Judd there.
